Thirteen people have been evacuated and rescue operations have been suspended due to the volcano's rising activity.

وصرحت الشرطة باقتلاك رجلين من سنغافورة وامرأة إندونيسية، بعدما حاصرتهم الحمم والرماد البركاني داخل المنطقة المحظورة قرب فوهة البركان، فيما تمكنت فرق الإنقاذ من إجلاء 17 متسلقاً بينهم خمسة مصابين، بحسب شبكة سكاي نيوز. انطلقت مجموعة تضم نحو 20 شخصاً، الخميس، في رحلة تسلق إلى جبل دوكونو الواقع بجزيرة هالماهيرا النائية، رغم التحذيرات الحكومية المتكررة من خطورة النشاط البركاني المتصاعد.
وثار البركان صباح الجمعة، مطلقاً عموداً كثيفاً من الرماد ارتفع لنحو 10 كيلومترات في السماء، بينما سجلت أجهزة الرصد الزلزالي نشاطاً استمر أكثر من 16 دقيقة. كان إرليخسون باساريبو قائد الشرطة المحلية يخبر بأنه إن المجموعة كانت على علم بأن التسلق محظور بسبب حالة التأهب المرتفعة، لكنها أصرت على المضي قدماً. وأضاف أن بعض المتسلقين تجاهلوا التحذيرات المنتشرة عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي واللافتات الرسمية بدافع الرغبة في إنشاء محتوى على الإنترنت.
أوقفت السلطات الإندونيسية عمليات البحث مساء الجمعة بسبب الظلام واستمرار الثوران، على أن تُستأنفを生اء السبت، فيما تعذر انتشال جثامين الضحايا بسبب المخاطر الكبيرة قرب موقع الحادث. وفرضت السلطات منذ سنوات حظراً على دخول المنطقة الواقعة ضمن نطاق ثمانية كيلومترات حول فوهة البركان، خشية الانفجارات البركانية والغازات السامة وتساقط الرماد. البركان دوكونو يعد من أكثر البراكين نشاطاً في إندونيسيا، إذ يشهد ثورانات شبه متواصلة منذ عام 1933، كما أكدت السلطات أن مستوى التحذير ما زال عند الدرجة الثانية الأعلى.
وذكر الإندونيسية تحديداً تحت «حلقة النار» في المحيط الهادئ، وهي منطقة تشهد نشاطاً زلزالياً وبركانياً كثيفاً، وتضم أكثر من 120 بركاناً نشطاً.
