India Imposes Additional Duties on Gold and Silver to Support the Rupee and Boost Reserves amid Supply Disruptions and Oil Price Increase

The Indian government has imposed additional duties on imports of gold and silver in an attempt to strengthen the Indian rupee, which has been declining, and to boost the country's reserves. This move is a result of the closure of the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait, which has disrupted global oil supplies, and the escalation of tensions between the US and Iran, threatening to further impact the Indian rupee and reserves.
