‘After learning about the incident in Shanghai, we immediately sent the team to the scene last night,’ Tesla wrote on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.
Tesla has launched an investigation after a Model S car appeared to explode while standing in a car park.
The mysterious incident happened at a parking lot in Shanghai, China, at just before 9pm local time in April 21. ‘We are actively contacting relevant departments and supporting the verification. According to current information, there are no casualties.’ News of the incident quickly went viral on Weibo, where users described the car as suffering ‘spontaneous self-combustion’ – although it’s not known if this description is accurate because the cause of the fire has not been revealed.
