It’s official - napping is good for you because it helps people process difficult decisions 😴
The findings from the University of Bristol, published in the Journal of Sleep Research, support research that a period of sleep may help weighing up pros and cons before making a tricky decision. This means there the comment 'Sleep on it' could be actually true.
The Medical Research Council-funded study, led by University of Bristol researchers, revealed during short bouts of sleep people process unconscious information and problem solving. Sixteen people took part in the study, have EEGs attached to their head - this records electrical activity in the brain.
Dr Liz Coulthard, Consultant Senior Lecturer in Dementia Neurology at the University of Bristol Medical School: Translational Health Sciences, said the findings were fascinating .She revealed: "The findings are remarkable in that they can occur in the absence of initial intentional, conscious awareness, by processing of implicitly presented cues beneath participants' conscious awareness.
"Further research in a larger sample size is needed to compare if and how the findings differ between ages, and investigation of underlying neural mechanisms."
